The International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago has chosen the 2015 Puerto Rican comedy 2015 comedy A Wedding in Castañer (Una boda en Castañer) for its final Reel Film Club screening of the 2023 season. Now in its 14th year, the Reel Feel Club celebrates a theme night with a reception and film showing showcasing films and filmmakers from around Latin America followed by a post-screening discussion. The RFC takes place every last Tuesday of the month between January and February and May and November.
Directed by Raúl García, A Wedding in Castañer takes place in the mountain town of the title as its residents prepare to witness what promises to be the greatest wedding in its history: that of Mariana Zalduondo, only daughter of respected doctor Eduardo Zalduondo, and Ender, her medical school classmate. All hell breaks loose when past mistakes as well as cultural (and even racial) prejudices threaten to derail the wedding in this entertaining comedy featuring a who’s who of Puerto Rican film, television, stage and music: Braulio Castillo Jr., Adrián García, Marian Pabón, Georgina Borri, Jazmín Caratini and salsero Michael Stuart.
The screening will take place on Tuesday, November 28 at Instituto Cervantes, 31 W. Ohio St. and will begin at 6 pm with a reception followed by the screening at 7 pm. For tickets, visit LatinoCulturalCenter.org.
