Official Poster of LLAKI, Official Selection of the 40th Chicago Latino Film Festival. (Bolivia)

Like being under water—that is how director Diego Revollo describes the hearing impairment that afflicts him. Made in collaboration with the Ortiz Ramos family of the Kallawaya Nation, “Llaki” portrays Revollo’s journey to Bolivia’s Lunlaya community in search for answers and a cure. For them, the physical body has to be complete. For Western medicine, the symptom must be attacked through artifacts whose coldness clashes with that omnipresent nature that gives life but also kills. Between ethnography and essay, between observation and autobiography, “Llaki” reminds us that healing is also understanding.

Diego Revollo is scheduled to attend both screenings.
