Manas • Winner of the Audience Award at the Huelva Latin American Film Festival, documentary filmmaker Marianna Brennand’s feature fiction debut takes audiences deep into the Amazon rainforests where the exploitation and abuse of girls and teens is, unfortunately, the norm. Thirteen-year-old Thiele (newcomer Jamilli Correa) lives by the riverbank with her father, mother, two brothers and younger sister. On the surface, she lives like a normal child, but an incident leaves her trapped between two abusive environments. Co-produced by Walter Salles (“I’m Still Here,” “Central Station”), “Manas” is a sensitive and heartbreaking story about the loss of innocence.
