You are invited to something special,...
We celebrate the full spectrum of filmmaking in Spanish, Portuguese, and the Indigenous languages of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula — stories that provoke, that move us to laughter and to tears, that challenge us to think more deeply about who we are and who we can become.
We exist because ignorance thrives in silence, because misunderstanding grows in the absence of dialogue, and because indifference is the quiet erasure of entire peoples. Every film we screen is an act of presence. Every story we share is proof that we are here — standing tall, unapologetic, and unafraid to take our rightful place in the cultural conversation.
This is more than a film festival. This is 42 years of showing up. Of lifting each other up. Of refusing to be invisible.
Opening Night Event
Opening Night at the 42nd Chicago Latino Film Festival will look a bit different this year. Due to the changing economic climate and its impact on cultural funding, the organization has chosen to step back from the traditional Gala format in favor of something more intentional—a celebration that, in its quiet simplicity, speaks far louder. A reception with hors d’oeuvres will be held before the screening of our Opening Night Feature Selection: Aún Es De Noche En Caracas. A cash bar will be available, along with an opportunity to meet and talk to the filmmakers, who will be in attendance to discuss the film and engage with ticket-purchasing guests. Because the most powerful statement this festival can make right now is the one it has always made: that film endures, that stories matter, and that the act of gathering to witness them together is, in itself, a profound and necessary thing. Tickets this year are only $35 and include the reception, film screening and Q&A after the film with both Directors Mariana Rondón & Marité Ugás

Closing Night Event
Closing Night at the 42nd Chicago Latino Film Festival will also adopt the same mode as Opening Night. Enjoy a reception with light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, plus an opportunity to network with filmmakers before the exclusive showing of this year’s Feature Selection for Closing Night. Closing Night is a time to reflect, take stock of what we saw, smiled, and cried about, and to thank the consummate filmmakers who took us on this journey that is the 42nd Chicago Latino Film Festival.
