En La Caliente • Despite its popularity in Cuba, Reggaetón is barely heard in the country’s official media outlets. It thrives in the underground music scene thanks to the pollination of USB keys, CDs, and cassettes with music recorded from Caribbean radio stations. One musician took this scene by storm and planted the seeds for what was to come: Kandyman. Fabien Pisani’s raw and honest non-fiction feature debut tracks Kandyman’s rise in Cuba’s underground scene, his many struggles against government censorship and deprivation, and his eventual, and heartbreaking, exile.
